Safety and urgent help

What SensoryShore can and cannot do, and where to get urgent help instead.

In short

The short version first.

Each part of this page starts with a short summary in plain words. The full detail follows. You only need to read the detail if you want to.

What SensoryShore is

A free website with a questionnaire. It is for adults who are autistic, or who think they may be autistic, especially while they wait for an autism assessment.

What it is not

Not a helpline, a support service, or someone to talk to. Not a crisis service. Not a replacement for care from qualified health professionals.

If you feel unsafe now

If you or someone else is in danger now, call 999. For urgent help that is not an emergency, call NHS 111 (NHS is the National Health Service). To talk to someone at any time, call Samaritans free on 116 123. If you would rather text than call, text SHOUT to 85258 (Shout is a free text service).

The safety boundary

In short: SensoryShore can help you understand your own patterns. It cannot help you in a crisis. For a crisis, use the services listed on this page.

  • SensoryShore is not emergency care or therapy. It has no helpline, no support service, and no one to talk to.
  • CalmCompanion is an AI (artificial intelligence) companion: a computer program you write messages to, and it writes back. It is in development and not yet available. It would not act as a crisis service.
  • Users in immediate danger should seek urgent help from appropriate emergency or crisis services.

What happens if things feel hard

In short: the questionnaire has short check-ins. A check-in is a short question, asked three times during the questionnaire, about how you are feeling. If you answer that you are distressed or need to stop, it pauses and shows you where to get help.

  • SensoryShore points you to services that can help straight away. It does not try to talk you through a crisis.
  • These safety steps are fixed rules, written in advance. They do not use AI (artificial intelligence).
  • Nobody at SensoryShore is alerted when you answer a check-in. Your answer does not change or limit your account.

Where to get urgent help

In short: if it is urgent, contact one of the services below now. Do not rely on SensoryShore.

  • For urgent help that is not an emergency, call NHS 111.
  • To talk to someone at any time, call Samaritans free on 116 123.
  • If you would rather text than call, text SHOUT to 85258 (Shout is a free text service).
  • These services are not run by SensoryShore.
  • For diagnosis, treatment, or help to keep you safe, speak to a qualified health professional.
