Not a diagnostic tool

A direct explanation of what SensoryShore is for and what it must not be mistaken for.

In short

The short version first.

Each part of this page starts with a short summary in plain words. The full detail follows. You only need to read the detail if you want to.

What it does

It gives you a clearer picture of your own patterns. For example, how you react to noise, or how much effort you put into fitting in.

What it does not do

SensoryShore is not a diagnostic tool and does not diagnose autism or any other condition. It does not replace an autism assessment.

Why it can still help

It gives you words for your patterns that you can take to a GP (general practitioner, your family doctor). You can also download a report and a letter for your GP.

Why this is not a diagnosis

In short: SensoryShore helps you understand yourself. It does not give a diagnosis. Only a formal autism assessment by qualified health professionals can do that.

  • No profile score or report should be treated as a formal autism diagnosis.
  • Using SensoryShore does not make us your doctor or health professional.
  • SensoryShore is for adults who are autistic, or who think they may be autistic, especially while they wait for an autism assessment.

What the profile is for

In short: the profile is there to make patterns easier to see and communicate.

  • It can help you put your everyday experiences into clear words.
  • It can help you understand yourself, and talk to other people about your experiences.
  • It gives you a report and a GP letter that may be easier to talk through with your GP or another health professional.

What it is not for

In short: it should not be used as proof of diagnosis, emergency assessment, or treatment advice.

  • Do not use it as a substitute for formal assessment.
  • Do not rely on it for urgent safety decisions.
  • Do not assume the platform can determine whether someone is or is not autistic.
